Apple pie or Torta di Mele in Italian
Apple pie is the dessert we make often at home. It’s simple to remember ingredients, I can make it fast and most of the times I have all the ingredients already at home.
As I like to test out variations of apple cakes this is just the first one I will be sharing with you here. 🙂
What I love about apple cakes is that my whole house is sweet smelling when I’m making it, it’s crumbling when I’m eating it and that it tastes even better the next day when all the flavors penetrate.
I have made this recipe for the first time and I have learned a few things I will share with you.
Ingredients for this apple pie are simple and easy to remember:
- 5 small apples (golden are a good choice but I also use the ones I have on hand)
- 250 grams of sugar
- 250 grams of flour
- 250 grams of butter
- 3 eggs
- 1 baking powder
Follow the simple process of preparing it.
Blend together butter (room temperature) and sugar until they become creamy. My butter was not as soft as I forgot to take it from the fridge earlier and I had to work it more.
I would suggest 2 things when preparing this apple pie:
- Take the butter out of the fridge an hour before
- Use a blender to blend butter, sugar, and yolks together. I did it manually and it was hard.
Add yolks and mix all together until the eggs have penetrated well into the mix.
Place the flour into the bowl and add baking powder.
Mix them together. Now add them to the butter mix while using the sifter in order to avoid any dirt or bigger chunks.
Stir all well.
Mix egg whites in your mixer until you obtain nice and firm and then add them carefully to the mix in order to keep the fluffiness of the cake.
Pour the apple pie mix into the baking tray (I have used a round spring pan, but you can use any form ).
Slice the apples into thin slices and press them into the mix following the pan. Start on the outside border and when completed, move onto the inner part.
Place in preheated oven and bake 40-45 minuted on 180 C.
Once the apple pie has cooled down sprinkle the powdered sugar over it (if you do it while it’s still hot it will melt immediately).
Enjoy your apple pie!
